This is a walking tour in Nara Park, the most famous sightseeing spot of Japan's old capital (8th century). You will be picked up by a professional and knowledgeable local guide and will visit a variety of UNESCO -registered World Cultural Heritage Sites, among which are Todaiji Temple with its Giant Buddha, Kasuga Taisha Shrine, Kofukuji Temple, Mt Wakakusayama and more! Nara Park encompasses a large area in the center of Nara city, which used to be the capital of Japan between 710 and 784. Due to its historical importance in the building of the state and spread of Buddhism, this area has a high concentration of ancient temples, most of which have a UNESCO status as World Cultural Heritage Sites. Another prominent feature of Nara Park is the existence of about 1200 freely roaming deer that give a peculiar and mystical feeling of the area. According to Shinto beliefs, deer are the messengers of the gods and have been protected as holy spirits for centuries. In this park you will be able to feed them and enjoy the harmony of nature and culture that makes Nara a unique place in Japan. Accompanied by a professional local guide, you will visit: - Kofukuji Temple, built as early as the beginning of 8th century by the powerful clan Fujiwara. The majestic five-story pagoda is a symbol of the temple. - Kasuga Taisha, one of Japan's oldest and most important Shinto shrines, known for its many stone lanterns and mystical atmosphere due to its location in the woods. - Todaiji Temple, home to the world's largest wooden building and Japan's largest bronze statue of Buddha (15-meter tall). Other highlight of this ancient temple include the impressive Nandaimon Gate, Nigatsudo Hall and Shosoin treasure house. - Mt Wakakusayama, a short grass-covered mountain with plenty of roaming deer. - Yoshikien or Isuien Gardens, great examples of Japanese garden arrangement.
