The Mutianyu Great Wall is located 90 minutes north of Beijing by car, and has a long and interesting history. This UNESCO World Heritage architectural wonder was constructed more then 2,500 years ago to protect the Chinese from fierce northern tribes. The Mutianyu Great Wall is beautifully surrounded by dense woods and rich pastures that change colors with the seasons. According to researchers, General Xu Da constructed and completed Mutianyu from the ruins of the previous wall, built during the Qi dynasty under the supervision of the early Ming emperors. The Great Wall at Mutianyu has a unique style, with densely concentrated watch towers, strategically situated in mountain passes, and with crenellations on both sides of the wall. From the entrance, you can take a 5 minutes’ shuttle bus to the bottom of the mountain or go there walking. Then you can hike up the side of mountain to the Wall or take one of the 2 available cable cars; one located on the left side (Cable Car) and one on the right side (Chairlift). Once on the Wall, you can walk over passing several watch towers for different views. On the way down, you can either walk, take any of the cable cars or the toboggan on the right side.

Know Before You Go

General Information:

  • Children under 1.2m tall may enter for free
  • ​When you've selected any of the add-ons, you may present your E-ticket with the QR code to the respective add-on providers to redeem said add-on
  • This is an open day ticket. It can be used within 30 days since the selected travel date when purchased (Except Toboggan)
  • You cannot use a chairlift ticket on a cable car and vice versa, as different companies run both the chair lift / toboggan and the cable car, and do not accept each others’ tickets
  • Should you choose to purchase your ticket on the day of the activity (day you wish to redeem the activity), please purchase before 3pm, as any purchases after 3pm are not accepted by the local vendor
