Buddhism is the main religion in Thailand. With influences from Hinduism and Animism, religion here is somewhat unique. Temples are one of the essential must-see places that allow you to immerse yourself into the Thai culture and find out more about their daily lives. However, visiting temple after temple might be exciting for some but it might seem like a chore for others. As such here are some must-see temples in Krabi that will allow you to fully understand and immerse yourself in the Thai Culture without having to spend the majority of your trip hopping from temples to temples daily.
Tiger Cave Krabi
Krabi’s most famous temple, the Tiger Cave Temple or Wat Tham Sua, is located just 5 kilometres from Krabi Town Centre. In order to reach the top of the temple, you need to climb up 1,237 steps. Once at the top, you would be rewarded with a 360-degree view of Krabi.
The main attraction at this temple apart from the large golden Buddha statue at the top and the view is the footprint of Buddha. We’d recommend visiting the temple during sunrise or sunset to enjoy an even more stunning view from the top. It is also the perfect opportunity to avoid the heat.
Wat Kaew Korawaram
This modern temple originated back to 1887. Wat Kaew Korawaram is located on a hill overlooking downtown Krabi. The temple is lined with a majestic staircase lined by golden Naga structures leading up to the temple.
The interior of the temple is decorated with white walls and dark tiled roofs, unlike other temples. You might even see monks taking care of the grounds or returning from almsgiving.
Wat Sai Thai
Wat Sai Thai is not a temple per se but there is a huge reclining Buddha statue under a cliff. Just 15 minutes from Ao Nang Beach, this statue is located along the side of the main road and definitely worth a stop.
