There's no doubt that when you look good, you'll feel good. Ditch the baggy t-shirts and shorts for some activewear that'll get you excited to workout. Here are 6 local activewear brands that have made the cut. With these, you're sure to smash all your fitness goals.

Kydra

One of the most popular local activewear brands, Kydra is known for its sleek branding and innovative designs. Their line is constantly improving, and I find their cuts very flattering. Their fabric is really cooling and as they often tout, buttery soft. Others have compared it to the paragon that is Lululemon, but I don’t think it quite hits the mark for now. However, while these are excellent for both high-impact and low-impact workouts, I would avoid using these in the gym. My leggings have gotten furred when rubbed against a barbell — they definitely aren’t optimised for lifting. Sizing across sports bras are sometimes not consistent, and their return policy is rather inflexible, so boo on that. I’d recommend thoroughly reading the reviews before investing in a sports bra.

Anya Active

Anya Active is a local brand which has recently caught my eye. They promote body inclusivity, and offer a range of sizes, which I am all for. Great for those who often have trouble finding the right size! I’ve tried out one of their bras, which is not only comfortable, but offers great support during HIIT and other high-impact activities. They also offer a wide range of colours which I think is a nice change from the usual blacks and grays. Other than that, they also have a range of activewear which also easily functions as atheleisure, making it great for transitions between your workout and back.

MyWheyStop

One of the most affordable options on this list, MyWheyStop sells quality activewear at really good prices. I’ve bought a pair of leggings from them two years ago, and despite going through various forms of abuse, they are still holding strong. The cut is flattering, and the leggings are supportive. The material may be on the thicker side and not as buttery soft, but they do the job nicely. A great option if you’re looking to start your exercise journey and want affordable and functional activewear, but don’t want to splash out on other brands.

GLOWco

This local brand is muslim-owned, offering a range of conservative activewear for those who are worried about showing too much skin. Yes, you don’t need to sacrifice fashion for function when it comes to GLOWco. Here, you’ll find comfy and chic pieces, as well as non-slip shawls and sports hijabs with breathable fabrics that won’t get in the way of your workout. I’ve personally not tried it, but as someone who isn’t a fan of the sports bra and leggings only combination, I think this is a brilliant and inclusive brand.

Vivre Activewear

Launched in 2014, Vivre Activewear has been providing quality gears to the fitness community and continues to do so. My very first pair of proper leggings were from them, in fact! I’ve outgrown them (cough, weight gain, cough), but they are still in great shape. They've since branched out in terms of designs and patterns, so if you’re a fan of patterned pieces, there’s sure to be something to catch your fancy here. It’s great that their fabric is moisture-wicking and cooling as well, so you can look great even after a hard sweat. Their pieces tend to be more light to medium in terms of support, so if you’re an avid yogi, this is the brand for you. However, if you’re more of hardocre HIIT girl, try Kydra or Anya Active instead.

Outfyt

A sustainably-made activewear label, Outfyt prides itself on its Italian fabrics. Being half-Swedish, the owner states that many of the pieces are influenced by Scandinavian design. This means clean cut, sleek pieces that have tons of re-wear value. The brand also has a huge focus on sustainability, and produces its wares in small batches. Single-use plastics have also been eliminated from the manufacturing process. Their workers in Indonesia are all paid above the minimum wage and have health insurance. As a result, their pieces don’t come cheap. With all that goes into them, I’m not complaining — in fact, I’m currently saving up for a set!
