Many travellers flock to Phuket to relax, and with the sheer number of beaches in the city, it’s not hard to see why! We’ve compiled a list of 6 beaches that are perfect for you to make your quick getaway to. If you’re up for it, you can even go beach-hopping - we hope you’ve packed enough swimsuits and board shorts!

Bangtao Beach

This is one of Phuket’s longest beaches, with white sand stretching out up to 8km. Unlike some other beaches in Phuket, Bangtao Beach is not littered with umbrellas, jet skis and persistent peddlers. Conversely, it is peaceful and very clean. You’d never guess that the area was once home to some of Thailand’s most productive tin mines before it was converted to a luxury beach area. Today, you’ll find some beautiful lagoons, parks and canals, along with some high-end resorts and hotels. If you wish to travel on the waters to see the different resorts, there are free ferry shuttles around. You can also take the chance to visit Layan Beach and Gata Island, which are closer to the northernmost part of Bangtao Beach.

Patong Beach

Located right in the heart of Phuket, Patong Beach is the place to go not just to get that amazing golden-brown tan, but for its vibrant pace of life! The beach itself is lined with cafes, restaurants and bars - perfect for you to grab a quick bite or sip on a mid-day drink. Come night, the area is also the site of Phuket’s famous nightlife scene, with plenty of go-go bars and massage parlours for you to enjoy. Patong Beach itself is about 3km long, and gets more crowded in the middle part, so if you’re looking for a quieter part of the beach to hang out at, you’ll have more luck venturing to the ends of the beach!

Karon Beach

Perhaps one of the most family-friendly beaches in Phuket, Karon Beach promises fun and sun for everyone. It is situated towards the west of Phuket, and is the third longest beach spanning 5km. While it’s definitely more tranquil towards the northern end of the beach, it’s not difficult to find a spot anywhere to lay out your mats and towels and just chill! If you’re itching to do something, try out some windsurfing, wakeboarding or kayaking! You’ll find stores renting this equipment easily, just make sure to check with the lifeguards on the tides and water conditions before you embark on these sports. If water sports aren’t your thing, you can always enjoy a good ol’ game of beach volleyball in the evenings!

Kata Beach

Another beach seated on the west coast of Phuket, Kata Beach is much less hectic than Patong Beach, though it has no lack of activities to keep you engaged! Apart from just basking in the warmth of the sun, you can also try out some surfing at the Surf House. Check out Kata viewpoint for some spectacular views of Kata Beach and its other surrounding beaches, before taking a slow walk to Kata Temple. If you’re visiting in the later part of the year, you’ll also be treated to a beautiful view of yachts filling up the bay, as they arrive to take part in the King’s Cup Regatta every December!

Paradise Beach

About 150m in length, this is probably one of the most compact beaches in Phuket. Don’t let its size fool you, though - this beach offers you a wide view of the Patong area  and is home to the Paradise Beach Club Phuket, a well-established party spot. In the day, sunbathe or laze about under the shady trees with a book in hand, or venture into the clear waters for some snorkelling. As it gets darker, head over to the Beach Club, or dine at one of the few restaurants behind the beach before exploring Phuket’s legendary nightlife!

Nai Harn Beach

Known for its fine and pristine sand, Nai Harn Beach makes for a pleasant and peaceful getaway from the bigger beaches of Phuket. Enjoy a beachside massage at one of the many stands lining the beach, or make your way to the smaller and more laid-back beaches of Ya Nui and Ao Sane after you’ve finished your lounging here. If your feet are aching for an adventure, you can always complete a short hike up Windmill Viewpoint to enjoy the sea breeze along with the panoramic views.

With no lack of beaches and thrilling activities, make Phuket your next stop in Southeast Asia! Once you’re done with your day of rest and relaxation at the beach, don’t stop there - here are some ways for you to engage in some wild and exhilarating nighttime activities!
