It’s finally March and just a day later it’ll be National Old Stuff Day! The purpose of this day is to simply encourage people to declutter all the old from their lives to provide more room for the new. Theoretically, it’s similar to Spring Cleaning especially when it falls within the same month but instead of throwing, why not donate instead? There are a myriad of benefits when it comes to donating your old clothes away and this time and here are some of the organisations you can donate to for a good cause!
Please note that with Covid-19, the companies’ policies may change. Check their website out for more details before donating.
MINDS
I have personally shopped and donated to the organisation and frankly found it addictive. The MINDS shop runs solely on donations which they will then sell to generate profit for their cause towards empowering individuals with special needs. The organisation has several outlets in Singapore making it incredibly accessible and convenient for those who want to donate. They also accept other materials for donations which again, makes it incredibly convenient for those who are decluttering the house out.

Green Square
In 2019 alone, Singaporeans have managed to generate 168,000 tonnes of textile and leather waste. This amount should indeed terrify us especially when we only have one landfill and the consumption of fast fashion has been steadily increasing over the years. Green Square maximises the use of a piece of old cloth in many ways just so the amount of textile waste would decrease. The best part, Green Square makes recycling textile easy! They provide free delivery services based on your convenience to clear your textile waste.

Blessings In A Bag
“It takes a village to raise a child” and hence why this organisation is born. They believe in providing equal opportunities for children to thrive and succeed and have organised several campaigns to ensure that they raise enough funds to meet their objectives. Other than charitable donations, they do accept donated goods as well though it has been highly restricted due to Covid-19 measures. Previously, they used to accept clothes and maybe someday they will again but as of now, the organisation is more focused on cleaning detergent and soaps.

New2U Thrift Store
I stumbled upon this thrift store by accident and never really thought so much about it except for their cheap finds. Only after I’ve made my purchase was when I discovered that this is a social enterprise organisation that works towards helping survivors and victims of domestic violence. Touched by the movement and cause, I made a point to contribute to the cause in any way I can even if it means personally dropping the clothes off at their humble store. Thankfully now, they have finally established an online shopping platform to save the hassle of travelling. You can view their shopping site here.

Ten Feet Tall
One of the leading causes of deaths in SouthEast Asia is gastrointestinal issues that occur through unsanitary food hygiene practices as well as by not wearing proper footwear. This isn’t known to many which is why Ten Feet Tall is trying to raise awareness amongst the general public on the importance of proper footwear especially in developing countries. Ten Feet Tall accepts any footwear in good condition of all ages and genders and will then polish them before distributing it to neighbouring countries.
