Traditional festivities are an important aspect of Austrian culture, as locals believe that it is vital to protect and keep them alive.

One of the most anticipated and interesting traditions would be the Easter Egg Battle (Eierpecken)  held every family Easter breakfast or brunch. Each household will prepare or buy a bunch of hard-boiled coloured eggs and before the eggs are savoured, a battle ensures. Everyone chooses an egg and fights with the other person by knocking the “tip” of their own egg with the other. The one with the egg shell left uncracked will be the winner of the round and the game continues until the strongest egg remains.

Another funny tradition would be the Autumn Cow Train / Autumn Cow Parade ( Almabtried) that occurs annually in the Alpine regions in late September or early October. During Summer, about 500,000 of the alpine cattle will be led high up into the mountains to feed on the pastures. Around October, the Autumn Cow Train will commence where the cows are brought down from the mountains back to the stables. They will form a line and the cows are  elaborately decorated in flower hats and celebrated with music and dance.
