The Gold Coast is home to a variety of theme parks – from the ones based on movies to exhilarating water parks. Here’s our ranking of the best ones.
4. Sea World
Sea World doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to animal welfare, but the Gold Coast theme park sets itself apart from its American counterparts by focusing on the rescue and rehabilitation of injured animals. Guests can view marine life from glass-bottom boats or get up close and personal with seals and dolphins at their unique shows. The park also hosts shows with characters from popular TV shows such as Paw Patrol and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to keep the children entertained.

3. Dreamworld
Australia’s biggest theme park is an all-ages extravaganza featuring a water park and live animal encounters. Feed a crocodile, try stand-up surfing in a tank, and meet characters from Shrek – all in one place. Dreamworld was hit with allegations of safety violations, but they claim to have cleaned up their act – you be the judge.

2. Movieworld
Ever wanted to see Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth up close? Or meet Tom and Jerry? Movieworld is the place for you. Fly through the sky at 100 km/h like Clark Kent on the Superman Escape, or follow Scooby-Doo and the gang into a haunted house. Thrill-seekers can ride the Wild West Falls – a steep drop at the end of a peaceful flume ride on a river.

1. Wet n Wild
Waterbabies, this is the park you’ve been waiting for. Race your friends down a gigantic eight-lane water slide, or ride the waves in the giant pool. There is a junior Splash Zone for little ones to enjoy, as well as a range of dining options within the park itself. Peak season is in the summer months, but a visit in the first quarter of the year is still pleasant.
