If your impression of a Michelin-star meal is sitting in a fancy restaurant and being served a 6-course meal, I am here to prove that wrong. While food in Singapore is rather pricey, you will be surprised to find out that there are many cheap Michelin-star meals that would not leave a hole in your wallet.

Michelin Stars originated from France in the 1900, and was started by the Michelin Tyre Company. As there were not many cars back in the 1900s, they published the Michelin guide to provide useful information to motorists. As the food section of the guide gained popularity, they decided to recruit a team of anonymous inspectors to visit and review restaurants, awarding stars at the end of their visit. Over the years, this food guide gained popularity all around the world.

This chicken rice hawker stall is home to the world’s cheapest Michelin-star meal in 2016. For less than $3, you are able to get a plate of Hawker Chan’s infamous soya sauce chicken rice. His stall got so famous, you would have to queue for hours before getting a plate of his chicken rice. Fortunately for us, he has opened a restaurant just down the road, with only slightly higher prices. Try his infamous soya sauce chicken rice - the chicken is tender and full of flavour, looking at it will make you instantly drool.

For around $6, you are able to get a bowl of steaming hot and delicious Bak Chor Mee. While you may have to wait in queue for a while, it is definitely worth it! Their noodles are soft and springy, while their pork is tender. The dish also comes with a well balanced sauce that is vinegary and flavourful.
