While some are self-proclaimed kbbq experts, others may have a lot of questions on how to eat kbbq the right way. Is there even a right way to eat kbbq? We asked a local korean on his input on how Koreans eat their kbbq.

Cooking the Meat

While cooking the meat, most people tend to make a mistake when flipping the meat. If you flip marinated meat too much, you will end up losing the marinate as it will drip off the meat. Flipping the meat less will allow meat to be tender and juicy, especially so for marinated items. As you cook the meat, you should also start with non-marinate items and cook the marinated items last. This is as the sauce will burn on the grill, also killing the fire.

While there is no set way of eating the meat, there are a few ways which Koreans like to do.

Dipping Sauce

There are a lot of different types of sauce: salt and sesame oil, gochujang based, soy sauce based etc. These sauces are used on different types of meat. Marinated beef is usually complemented with sweet sauces, while pork is usually complemented with salt and sesame oil, or ssamjang.

Wrapping

Wrapping the meat is usually up to the eater. But usually, it goes: lettuce, sesame leaf, garlic, sauce, meat, chives and kimchi. There are a lot of ingredients which people might put in or take out, depending on your preference.
