Bummed out you can’t catch up with your amigos over a hearty meal of Mexican food during this period? These seven restaurants specialising in Mexican cuisine are still open for takeaway and delivery, and can curb all your taco and burrito cravings. While ordering in won’t exactly match up to the experience of sharing nachos and a few margaritas with your gang, this is the perfect chance to treat yourself to some tasty Mexican food while we eagerly await dine-in to reopen.

Super Loco

Get your tacos fix at Super Loco, where tacos are available daily. Both of their outlets (Customs House and Robertson Quay) offer island-wide delivery, which means you can now enjoy their flavourful creations no matter where you live. There are a variety of fillings you can choose from (think steak, baja fish, fried cactus, or pulled pork), so there’s bound to be something that’ll tickle your pickle. Both outlets also feature different menus, giving you more reason to try them all. We highly recommend the pan-roasted barramundi (Super Loco Customs House). Served with salsa verde and a herb salad alongside corn tortillas, it’s a dish not to be missed. You can also check out their sister restaurants, Lucha Loco at Duxton Hill and Chica Loco at Amoy Street for more Loco goodness.

Now, this one’s a household name among Mexican food-lovers. Having built up quite the following from their first outlet at Keong Saik Road, it’s no surprise fans immediately swarmed to their new outlet at Frasers Tower after they announced their reopening. If you’ve been searching far and wide for the perfect burrito, look no further. Many have claimed Muchachos has the best burritos on our sunny shores, but don’t just take our word for it — try it for yourself. For those who don’t fancy burritos, the usual tacos, quesadillas, and nachos are available here too.

Opening Hours: Monday–Saturday, 11am–9pm

If you’re looking for something a little different from your standard Mexican fare, their soft-shell crab tacos is the dish for you.

Guzman Y Gomez

Craving for some good Mexican food that won’t break the bank? Guzman Y Gomez (GYG) is probably the most wallet-friendly option on this list, but that doesn’t mean that they scrimp on flavour. In fact, GYG was my first introduction to the wonderful world of Mexican food, and my first GYG burrito bowl made me fall in love with the cuisine. Whether you’re feeling like some loaded nachos, a classic burrito, two tacos or three (because one is never enough), you’re bound to find something to satisfy your appetite. Don’t forget to order a side of guac ($6 for small, $9 for regular) to go along with your meal.

Price: ~$10+

El Patio is known for their fajitas, which makes it a can’t-miss item. They offer four different types of fillings: chicken, shrimp, beef and lamb. El Patio also has a vegetarian-friendly option available, which comes with mushrooms, eggplant, broccoli, cauliflower, and tofu. Other notable selections on their menu include chimichangas (deep-fried burritos), quesadillas, their Tex-Mex Burrito Grande ($19), and a large selection of frozen margaritas. Pro-tip: this is one restaurant you need to visit once dine-in restrictions ease, because every table gets a basket of chips with salsa on the house as starters.

One thing to love about Piedra Negra is you get to witness your guacamole made fresh at your table. While we may not be able to enjoy this one-of-a-kind experience just yet, Piedra Negra is still serving up delish Mexican fare that’s available for self pick-up or delivery to your doorstep. Their fish and shrimp baja tacos are two recommended items on the menu, along with their mouth-watering nachos and enchiladas. For something off-the-beaten track, try their selection of refreshing ceviches or the Rajas con Crema (poblano peppers roasted with onion and corn in a cream sauce).

Opening Hours: Monday–Sunday, 11am–9:30pm

Price: ~$15+

Papi’s Tacos

You can’t go wrong with a Mexican eatery where its staff and regular customers call its head chef papi (a colloquial Spanish term for daddy). Papi’s Tacos’ head chef and partner hails from the Mexican town of Papalotla, so you can be sure the food here is as authentic as it gets. The fish tacos (Tacos De Pescado) is the star here, featuring grilled white dory fish paired with fresh cabbage and chipotle aioli on a fluffy flour tortilla — regulars swear by it. If you’re looking to switch things up a bit, they’re also offering DIY home taco kits (from $99) that allow you to put together your own tacos without worrying about getting the flavours wrong.

Opening Hours: Monday–Sunday, 10:45am–2:30pm and 3pm–8:45pm

Price: ~$15+ (minimum order of $50, delivery fee of $15)

How to Order: Order online on their website

And there you have it, a curated list of some of the best Mexican eats in town to tide you through this period of staying inside. All that’s left to do is to choose a restaurant (tough choice, we know) and start browsing.
