Ion Orchard has a myriad of stalls and restaurants of various cuisines to keep every shopper sated. But sometimes all you want is a comforting plate of hawker food, and where can you find that in town?

Fret not, as of 3rd June, Ion Orchard has created a corner for 6 famed hawkers. Located in the basement of the mall, the area is impossible to miss — it’s directly in front of the escalator. The freshly cooked foods whiff up an aroma that can attract you from a mile away.

The new Hawker Street houses hawkers with notable awards, including Michelin-starred brands as well as those with rich history. Here are the stalls you can find at the recently opened dining destination.

Ann Chin Popiah

Popiah

Michelin-star accredited stall, Ann Chin Popiah, whips up batches of fresh and affordable popiah for all to enjoy. The brand first started from a humble pushcart in 1958 before it successfully expanded to 10 stalls all over the island. What makes the brand’s popiah incredibly irresistible and longstanding is due to the owner’s special skills in making the popiah skins silky and thin. For only $2.50 a roll, getting such an iconic item in town at this price is truly a gem.

Famous Eunos Bok Chor Mee

Meatball and Wanton Bak Chor Mee

Looking for some rich, old-fashioned, traditional soup? Head down to Famous Eunos Bak Chor Mee! Using a time-honoured, 100-year-old recipe that dates back to the 1920s, this family-run chain is said to be the first to introduce this delicacy to Singapore. Their stall first opened in the 1980s by second-generation owners in Eunos before it successfully expanded itself whilst retaining its well-loved recipe. Up until today, their fifth-generation owner still remains incredibly loyal to the family’s recipe, ingredients, and skills used.

Jian Bo Shui Kueh

Shui Kueh

Adored for its aromatic shui kueh topped with their trademarked, addictive chye poh, the Jian Bo Shui Kueh has even earned themselves a Michelin-star for their street snack. Founded back in 1958, the first-generation owner migrated from China all the way to Singapore and started making a living by selling shui kueh. Now, the brand has successfully opened up 20 other outlets in Singapore while sticking strongly to its roots. Some tweaks were made to fit the increasingly health-conscious population, but the flavours are guaranteed to taste just as delicious.

Nam Sing Hokkien Mee

Hokkien Mee

At the end of the long snaking queue at Nam Sing is a pot of hot hokkien mee. This crowd-favourite hokkien mee was started by two brothers in the 1940s, and soon it will be passed down to the third-generation owner. The brothers have managed to perfect the swift skills of whipping up plates of hokkien mee.

Their unique use of thin bee hoon alongside the classic yellow noodles have enabled them to soak up the top-notch broth comprised of seafood and other ingredients. It is often traditionally served with red-cut chillies without overpowering the saltiness of the dish too much.

Beach Road Scissors-Cut Curry Rice

Pork Curry Rice

This legendary and pioneering Hainanese curry rice stall in Jalan Besar is well-loved for its braised pork belly and crispy pork chop, characteristically cut up with scissors that emit a distinctive snapping sound – hence its moniker. The highlight is undoubtedly the curry gravy and braised pork sauce poured over steamed rice, accompanied with sides.

King of Fried Rice

Tom Yum Fried Rice

This fried rice stall needs no introduction — visited by many food bloggers and influencers, this popular stall has won the hearts of many. The stall was founded by an ex-Jumbo chef and his signature creation is simply egg fried rice topped with crispy fried pork chop. Sometimes, simplicity is key and from there, he expanded his menu and fried rice flavours, garnering more crowds and returning fans along the way.

So, what are you waiting for? Head down to these hawker stalls today for takeaway. Alternatively, you can order them online, available on GrabFood, Foodpanda, and Deliveroo.
