Do you know where our food comes from? From factory to table, our food consumes resources, and produces planet-warming greenhouse gases. With the planet threatened with climate change becoming more prevalent, eating sustainably has never been more important. Eating sustainably can be fun too, and an enriching experience for you and your family. Here are some ways you can eat sustainably and save the planet.

Visit a sustainable farm in Singapore

Discover the origins behind the food you eat by visiting Singapore’s sustainable farms. You can also buy fresh produce from the various sustainable farms in Singapore, and cook up your own sustainable meal! Or if you’d prefer to have it done for you, Bollywood Veggies has an onsite bistro where they prepare meals with ingredients grown in their own farm. Many sustainable farms in Singapore also offer tours and workshops if you’re looking for something to occupy the kids.

Grow your own food

Urban gardening has become more popular in recent times, and you can grow food right from your home! Growing food is inexpensive and an educational experience for the family, and you can grow whatever edible plants you feel like. Stuck on what to grow? Try staple foods like tomatoes, potatoes and carrots. Growing your own food is also a healthier alternative, and you’re in control of the process from start to finish. There’s nothing more satisfying than eating your homegrown produce!

Use the leftovers for your next meal

There’s plenty you can do with your leftovers. Why not get creative and find an innovative way to use them instead of tossing them in the trash? You can make your leftovers taste good with tried-and-tested recipes easily available online. That’s one less meal to think about, and it’s cost-saving too!

If you need more ideas to get started on eating sustainably, look no further. This month, Temasek’s Ecosperity engages the community in a series of fun activities focused on how our food choices impact the environment.
