With the many islands surrounding Krabi, you might be spoilt for choice deciding which islands you would like to explore. Here are some of our top suggestions for the best islands to discover around Krabi.

Koh Hong

Famously known as Hong Island, Koh Hong is part of the Than Bok Khorani national park. The entrance fee to the island is 200THB per individual. The island is only open for day visits, so it’s best to make full of this gorgeous island under the sun.

There are many activities to do at this island, ranging from swimming to kayaking to snorkelling to fishing to hiking and even sunbathing. Otherwise, laze on the soft white same as you soak in the scenery around you.

The most unique thing about Hong Island is the natural lagoon that is surrounded by spectacular rock formations. There is only one way to enter the lagoon so be a bit careful if you are kayaking around the area. The water is around 1 m deep making it perfect for a leisure swim.

Most tour companies stop at Hong islands for lunch and after which you get the luxury of spending time here. If you are not joining a tour, you can hire a long-tail boat from Krabi and that too might include a trip to other nearby islands. The cost of hiring your own boat would be around 3000THB for six people.

Koh Poda

This lesser-known island is the perfect beach to simply relax and rejuvenate. Located 6 kilometres off Ao Nang, Koh Poda is a stunning tropical getaway you cannot miss. It is home to coral reefs and marine life, making it an ideal place for snorkelling. There is a small hotel on the island, Poda Island Resort, so you can spend a night on this luxurious island.

It takes 25 minutes via a long-tail boat to reach Koh Poda and as the island is part of the Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park, there is a 400THB entrance fee.

This is an upcoming island that is sought-after for an island getaway. It is only accessible by boat and the island has 4 different beaches with plenty of activities. It’s famous among nature loves and rock climbers as you can even climb the limestone cliffs here.

The 4 main areas in Krabi are Phra Nang, West Railway, East Railway and Ton Sai. Each area caters to a different group of tourists. West Railway is home to the luxury resorts while East Railway is home to bungalows and medium-priced accommodation. Ton Sai is well known among rock climbers and backpackers.

Phi Phi Islands

Home to Maya Bay, Phi Phi Islands is part of a marine national park. It is another of Krabi’s most popular islands with caves, limestone cliffs and turquoise waters. Some of the most popular activities are shallow snorkelling, kayaking or even discovering caves rich in history.

The only way to get around the island is via foot or to take a local longtail boat.

There are many tour companies that offer Phi Phi Islands as a day trip tour. These tours include snorkelling as well. Otherwise, you could hire a longtail boat from Krabi to get to Phi Phi Islands.

As it’s Krabi’s most popular island, Phi Phi Islands tends to get very crowded. Most tourists choose the other beautiful islands around Krabi instead, to relax and rejuvenate.
