Ever been mesmerised by the process of paper marbling and how people can create beautiful, unique marbled patterns? Well, SLIK Studios can show you how. Established in 2015, this art studio specialises in the art of paper marbling.
Paper marbling is a method of prints that produces unique patterns that resemble smooth marble. These patterns are done by floating colours on water and later transferring it to a surface, such as paper or fabric. This technique produces extraordinary patterns that are unique and can’t be replicated. This process can be done on a myriad of surfaces, including candles, coasters, tote bags and many more.
This month, SLIK Studios is working together with Native to provide you with 2 of their unique workshops — a classic paper marbling art workshop and a Japanese orizome workshop. Book a spot for a workshop and let your imagination wander as you create some mesmerising patterns!
Japanese Orizome Workshop
If paper marbling isn’t for you, why not try out paper dyeing. Japanese paper dyeing, also known as Orizome-shi, is a traditional Japanese paper-craft technique that involves origami paper folding and coloured pigment dip dyeing. This method results in colourful, kaleidoscopic papers on traditional paper.
During this workshop, you will get to learn more about creating different floral and batik-inspired prints and decorate washi papers and your very own notebook. This workshop will be held on 17 April 2021 — priced at $80 for 2 pax. So, bring your friends along for a fun-filled time at SLIK Studios creating your very own Orizome-shi patterns.
Classic Paper Marbling Art Workshop
On 24 April 2021, learn how to marble like a pro and create a variety of traditional and contemporary marbled designs with SLIK Studios’ Classic Paper Marbling Art Workshop. At SILK Studios, you will be guided at every step of the way, learning about the intricacies and techniques of paper marbling.
For 2 hours, get to meet newfound friends that share the same interest in paper marbling. This workshop will also be held in small groups with social distancing measures in place. This workshop is priced at $90 per pax, and includes 16 A4 papers, a mini marbling kit, and 4 ceramic coasters for you to work with.
