Frankfurt, the capital of the German state of Hessen, has seamlessly blended their medieval heritage with modern style. There’s plenty to see in one of Germany’s busiest cities – apart from the central business district and skyscrapers. Here are our top picks for things to do in this stunning city.
Palmengarten

Who says you have to travel out of Frankfurt to see some greenery? The three botanical gardens in Frankfurt – one of which is the Palmengarten – is home to over 13,000 species of plants – some elegantly preserved in gorgeous greenhouses and artificial ponds. Plants suited for arid or cooler climates are given their own areas in the greenhouses that mimic their preferred climate for stunning natural beauty year-round.
Haus Romer

The most iconic part of the Frankfurt Old Town – this colourful building served as the City Hall of Frankfurt for over 600 years. Initially built by the merchant family it is named after, this building has been property of the government since 1405, and has undergone numerous extensions and restorations.
Stadel Museum

Probably the most important museum among all of the ones nestled on the embankment, the Stadel Museum boasts a collection that spans over 700 years. From Rembrandt to Monet to Picasso, many of Europes old masters and contemporary artists are represented in the art and sculpture that feature in the museum. They also have a rotating variety of exhibits dedicated to other artists and mediums.
Cathedral of St Bartholomew

Frankfurt’s most significant church dates back to the 7th Century, and used to be the very place where Holy Roman Emperors were chosen. Built in the Gothic style, the church features a number of chapels, and a towering spire. Forget the views from the Main tower – this is where it’s really at. Climb the old 328 steps up to the top of the tower and soak in the views of the Main and the old town from a unique vantage point.
Kleinmarkthalle

Not everyone’s lucky enough to visit Frankfurt in time for the lively Christmas markets, but this indoor market in the city centre is just as exciting. Featuring over 150 stalls selling bread, fresh produce, and the best Wurst in Frankfurt, this market is popular with locals for its wide variety of food and affordable prices. Be sure to stop by for lunch and grab a few freshly-prepared kreppels (donuts).
