Covid-19 has made life tough in many ways by plunging us all into a new era of unpredictability, anxiety and uncertainty about the future. Whilst this is the time to keep your loved ones closer and take comfort in their presence, stress and Covid-related restrictions have made tensions rise and tempers burn that much hotter (as months of circuit breaker hell have no doubt proven!) With tighter finances and romantic holidays abroad out of the question, maintaining a healthy supportive relationship with your other half has suddenly become that much harder at a time when we need it the most.

Keep the flames of passion burning creatively through these unconventional times with some of our tips for Covid-resistant couple bonding - you’d be surprised at how many fights can be avoided with a little premeditated effort put into keeping your partner happy.

Spontaneous, thoughtful gifts

If you’ve always believed in gifting flowers to your other half on special occasions, a global pandemic probably counts as a super-extra-special one. Surprise the love of your life with a ‘Love You Through Covid-19’ bouquet arranged with their favourite flowers (and perhaps some fancy chocolate thrown in for good measure) delivered straight to their home from FlowerAdvisor, an online florist that offers a wide range of customisable bouquets of almost every floral plant known to man (and woman). Cliched though it may sometimes be, spontaneous flowers have the magical power of bringing a smile to even the most stressed of faces, and remind your partner of how much you value their presence at your side through the eye of this raging Covid hurricane.

(And ladies, there’s no scientific evidence showing that men don’t like receiving flowers.)

At a time where you most need to remove yourself from the stress of daily life and disappear off into the unknown, the world shut its borders and locked everyone in place. The most you can travel now is from Pasir Ris to Jurong, but fret not - the magic of losing yourself in a new place can still be (somewhat) attained thanks to Singapore’s many gorgeous hotels. Grab your honey and book yourselves into a luxury hotel for a couple of days, where you can both let your imagination roam and forget about reality for a while.

Laugh over silly social media challenges (and then try them)

Now and then, the world comes up with truly genius ideas - like taking a photo of yourself and your other half dressed in the other person’s clothes (also known as the #clothesswapchallenge, or the more advanced #fliptheswitchchallenge). Many an evening can be spent joyously giggling with your partner like idiots over the silliest of social media challenges, and remembering that you are both essentially just large overgrown kids disguised as adults. Try also instagram games like the #whoismore challenge, where you answer (with head tilts) strange questions with your partner regarding who is more likely to do (and be) various things. The #gettymuseumchallenge, where you dress up and simulate world-famous works of art, is also a good one for passing rainy nights indoors doubled over with laughter.

Unconventional outdoor activities

With new restrictions like pesky contact tracing and social distancing measures, going out into people-populated areas can sometimes feel like more work than it is worth. The good news is, there’re plenty of fun unconventional things you could do outside that don’t involve malls, theatres, restaurants or other people. Get up early to catch a romantic sunrise with your partner at beautiful spots you never knew about, or attempt a hair-raising tour of Singapore’s most haunted places.
