Your first impression is how colourful everything is. Chips of every shade line, dot and plaster the walls with wanton abandon. Everything in the room has paint on it: the chairs, the tables, even the air conditioners are not spared.

It's all part of the charm of Splat's Paint House, where everyone's an artist or a madman. It's up to you to decide!

Gearing Up

Everyone was provided with plastic overalls and slip-ons for their feet - no shoes allowed inside! Unless you want them to end up splattered like the walls, or even the ceiling…

As a team, we were provided with a total of eighteen paints - nine colours, two of each. The Splat staff also provided a plethora of tools like paintbrushes, straws, ice scream sticks and water guns! Their brief took all of two minutes and can be summarised as such, ‘be creative, and have fun!’

Making a Splat!

Once the staff freed us from our restraints, it was up to us to get started on our master pieces!

For me, I'd been looking forward to this all afternoon. The first thing I did was dip my fingers into the paint and begin smearing it all over the canvas. The paint is child-safe and non-toxic, so there's nothing to worry about when getting in there!

My more restrained colleagues decided to use the implements provided - but even that was fun in its own way! Squirt guns were used to splatter their canvases (and the walls behind it) in interesting patterns, and they even used water to dilute the paint for fluid motifs!

There really weren't any rules, but the staff offered suggestions of what they'd seen others do whenever someone asked. They were always willing to offer new tools to spice up our creations.

Myself, I tried to let the inner artist out! As a lover of parks, I tried to make a detailed fruit tree on a hill with my fingers, but wound up making it look more like a battlefield of sorts. Not exactly a smooth transition, but art is fluid.

Some pieces looked as though they'd taken their frustrations out on the canvas, which was also a valid technique.

Drying Up and Drying Off

In the end, it really was all about getting into the groove and knowing what you wanted out of the experience! Whether you had a vision for your work or simply played around with the colours, it was enjoyable all around, and worth every minute!

The best part is, Splat Paint House keeps the pieces to dry, letting you pick it up once its ready. So after immersing yourself in the experience, you get something to show for it!

We weren't the only patrons enjoying our time as well. People of all ages - families and friends- came down to liberate their inner creatives. With proper distancing measures, of course.

It's appropriate for all ages (recommended three and up, so they'll have memories to keep!) so come on down and be free with Splat's paint house!
