Arguably, the classic fairytale Beauty and Beast has often been used as an example of Stockholm Syndrome. But unlike the tale as old as time, the royals of Sweden have been blessed with multiple beautiful palaces instead of being cursed to stay in just one with magical household objects.
Royal Palace
Despite being the residence of the current King of Sweden, it is open all year round to visitors and has over 600 rooms. Interestingly, it also has five museums including the Treasury, the Tre Kronor Museum (palaces medieval history) and Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities.

Drottningholm Palace
Visiting this french-inspired palace built in the 1600s will require a day trip out of Stockholm but it is no ordinary palace. Featuring salons with famous artworks and items from royal personages, an 18-century theatre and Chinese Pavilion, you will find many instagrammable corners in this UNESCO World Heritage site.
Rosendal Palace
Less than 15 minutes away from Stockholm, the Rosendal Palace will give you with a sense of serenity and peace with its gorgeous gardens. Originally intended as a summer palace, it is apt that it is open to visitors during the summer season.
Skokloster Castle
Known as one of the most exemplary examples of Baroque architecture in the Swedish Age of Greatness, the castle has a fine collection of artifacts from the 17th and 18th centuries. It was never fully completed and has stood uninhabited for 300 years.
Tullgarn Palace
This is one of the prettiest palaces near Stockholm. With a mix of Rococo, Gustavian and Victorian styles, this is the summer palace of King Gustaf V and Queen Victoria. The grounds and gardens are perfect for picnics and you could enjoy a nice cup of tea at the cafe.
Tyreso Palace
This palace is home to the Nordiska Museet, surrounded by a quaint English garden. It has 11 exhibitions on Swedish culture history. One of them features furniture development over generations which is definitely worth checking out especially if you enjoy going to IKEA.
Gripsholm Palace
For a truly “romantic” time, Gripsholm Palace is located on the fringes of a deer reserve and along Lake Malaren. Explore the Swedish National Portrait collection as you wander through winding passages.
