It feels like we’re finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong addressed the nation yesterday (March 24) and announced a slew of welcomed updates to the current Covid-19 measures in place. Social-gathering, mask-wearing, and travel restrictions will be significantly relaxed — essentially, Singapore is opening back up to the world.

“It will give a much-needed boost to businesses, particularly the tourism sector, and help Singapore reclaim its position as a business and aviation hub,” said PM Lee.

With the Omicron variant mostly under control, daily cases decreasing, and a vast majority of the local population being fully vaccinated, it feels like the time is right for Singapore’s tough Covid-19 measures to be eased.

Here’s an overview of all the changes starting from March 29:

Mask-Wearing

Keeping your masks on outdoors will be optional, but still encouraged in crowded areas. Masks will still be mandatory at all indoor settings, including hawker centers, malls, and public transport.

Social Gatherings

Group sizes will increase from the current 5 people to 10 people. Households will be able to host up to 10 visitors at any one time.

Dining Out

Groups of up to 10 vaccinated people will be able to dine out at F&B establishments. The 10:30pm ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol will also be lifted. Live performances will be allowed to resume at all venues.

Travel

From April 1, Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VTLs) will be retired, and all vaccinated travellers will be able to enter Singapore without quarantining. On-arrival Covid tests will no longer be required, and only a pre-departure test will be needed within 48 hours before trip to Singapore.
