Brought to you by the same creative folks behind Splat Paint House, art jamming is given a creative — well, spin — here at Spin Paint House.
On the outside, the building housing Spin Paint House looked unassuming. However, one step into the studio, and guests are immediately greeted by a splash of colour. Despite being a little less than a year old, the studio looked well-lived in, with plenty of paint splatters adorning its concrete walls.
Art and science intersect here as the laws of physics come into play. The star of the show is a rotating table, which manually operates at different speeds. Stop it abruptly, and it’ll create a very forceful splatter. Let it come to a standstill, and you’ll find your paint on the canvas much more nuanced.
While aprons and leg covers are provided to protect yourself from the accidental paint splatter or two, you may want to wear something that you wouldn’t mind getting dirty. Trust us, it gets messy (but in a good way)!
Not terribly inclined towards art? Don’t worry — a short briefing will be given by a friendly staff member before the session ensues to teach you some basic tips and tricks on how to approach creating your very own masterpiece at this unconventional art studio.
After the short “orientation”, we were given a few choices for our canvas, and then led over to a booth with our very own spin table to play with. We grabbed some paint, and got ready to start the fun!
Each booth comes equipped with a ring light and tripod for your smartphone to record the entire art adventure, which was a thoughtful touch.
A range of creative tools make the experience all the more exciting. Think pendulums and swinging trapezes that’ll give multiple effects depending on the way you use them (there’s more than one way to use these tools). The possibilities are simply endless: it took us multiple rounds to figure out how to approach the various painting techniques, but our best advice is to just go with the flow! We promise it’s more fun that way.
Three of us headed down that day, and we all walked away with greatly varying pieces, a testament to each of our personalities. Of course, we had to wait at least two days for the canvases to dry before picking it up at a later date, or you can also opt for delivery for an additional fee.
For families, the spin table may be a little on the high side for your little one, but there’s also a child-friendly spinning wheel — meaning everyone can be part of the creative action. The paint is also very much child-safe, making this a truly perfect spot for the entire brood to spend some time together and to get those creative juices flowing. There are even corporate packages on offer for a unique bonding activity with your colleagues.
There are no rules when it comes to painting here at Spin Paint House — just let your imagination run wild and you’ll be surprised with what your hands and mind can achieve.
Spin Paint House is a unique experience; as someone who is more classically-trained in art techniques, this proved an unique and liberating experience. Sometimes, it’s fun to just throw rules and conventions out the window, and let your instincts take over.
Packages start from $65 for an hour on the spin table for a single person, while it’s $119 for two people. Family packages go for cheaper, so bring the whole family along for this wonderful experience.
