When I think of a Michelin-star restaurant, the first things that come to mind are: a fancy dinner, an elegant setting, and a lengthy waiting list. Although the Phase 2 Heightened Alert restrictions have once again placed a hold on our dine-in visits and long-awaited reservations (until Aug 10), restaurants — even Michelin starred restaurants — are still offering takeaway options (through pick-up or delivery).
Although takeaway meals don’t offer the same Michelin-star dining experience as dining in does, food-lovers get to skip bothersome waitlists and enjoy top-notch fare while supporting the local restaurant industry.
From authentic duck confit to buah-keluak fried rice, here are some Michelin-star meals that can satisfy your taste buds in the comforts of your own home.
Summer Pavilion
Treat yourself to a comforting Chinese meal with Summer Palace. This one Michelin-star restaurant offers Cantonese classics such as marinated smoked duck, braised sea perch, and braised Chinese baby cabbage. Its tea selection is also available for delivery — with blends sourced from Chinese, Japanese, and English tea leaves.
Summer Palace’s signature dishes are also included in its takeaway menu, including the Hong Kong traditional rice dumpling. This dumpling is filled with various ingredients such as roast duck, dried scallop, salted egg yolk, green bean, mushrooms, lotus seeds, and more. The dumpling is well balanced, despite it being filled with an assortment of ingredients. Complement the dumpling with some scallion oil sauce, which adds a welcoming fragrance to the dish.

Candlenut
Indulge in an authentic Peranakan meal from Candlenut. This popular restaurant provides diners with both a contemporary and authentic approach to traditional Nonya cuisine, serving up dishes rich in history and taste. During this P2HA period, Candlenut is available for islandwide delivery, with a takeaway menu showcasing signature dishes such as its kueh salat, pork neck satay, and blue swimmer crab curry.
Its buah keluak fried rice is a favourite among diners: buak keluak fried with rich Indonesian sambal and topped with an organic sunny side up egg. This dish is filled with umami, with a hint of bitterness from the buah keluak. Be sure to mix the sunny side-up egg into the dish to add some extra creaminess.
