When I think of donuts, the first place that comes to mind is Krispy Kreme, even though I grew up eating J.CO. That goes to show just how strong Krispy Kreme’s brand presence in Singapore is, despite only entering our market in 2013.
Of course, we can’t talk about donuts without mentioning the large household names like Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts, and J.CO, but good donuts are not only found at these three mega chains. If you’ve been searching for where to get the best donuts in Singapore, we’ve got you covered.
Here are our top picks for where to find tasty donuts from locally owned bakeries around the island.
Sourbombe Artisanal Bakery
If you keep up with the Masterchef Singapore series, this bakery is probably already on your radar. Sourbombe Artisanal Bakery is the brainchild of Masterchef Singapore 2018 runner-up Genevieve Lee. Her shop specialises in sourbombes — a hybrid of a sourdough donut and the Italian bomboloni (stuffed donuts without a ring in the middle).
Sourbombe recently opened up a brick-and-mortar spot at Park Mall earlier this month, bringing its signature sourbombes to the Dhoby Ghaut neighbourhood. Offering unique flavours like lavender lime mascarpone, hojicha caramel crunch, basil cream and rhubarb, and many others, this bakery’s sourbombes will be a hit with those who do not like overly greasy or sweet donuts.
These sourbombes are sold in boxes of three ($15.50), six ($29), or nine ($44). You can also purchase a cute personalised gift card for just $3.

The Fat Kid Bakery
The Fat Kid Bakery was started in 2020 by a self-taught baker, whose love for baking grew into running her very own bakery. The Fat Kid stocks a variety of baked goods, from homemade loaves of bread to sweet treats such as eclairs and brownies. Its signature flavoured sourdough bombos (short for bomboloni) are a must-try, available in flavours like sea salt maple, earl grey, and apple cinnamon, among others. It also features a flavour that hits closer to home: calamansi.
You can get your very own sourdough bombos in boxes of four (from $14), eight (from $28), 10 ($35), and 12 ($42).

Doughter Bakery
Mochi lovers, this is one bakery you have to check out. Doughter Bakery is an online bakery specialising in mochi baked treats run by a mother-duo. Currently available in their mochi series are mochi muffins, mochi brownies, and mochi donuts.
The mochi donuts are a favourite among customers, resulting in the founders receiving countless requests to launch more flavours for their donuts. Unlike traditional donuts, Doughter’s mochi donuts are baked (not fried), and have a chewier mouthfeel thanks to the glutinous ingredient. Its donuts are made with the finest Belgian chocolate and come with three types of toppings: caramel crumble, dried flower petals, and Ferrero Rocher and gold flakes.
While the mochi donuts are only available for purchase with the bakery’s Everything You Love Set and some other sets, hopefully the bakery will allow them to be purchased individually in the future.

Burnt Ends Bakery
Australian-style barbecue restaurant Burnt Ends might not be among the top places you think of when trying to quell your donut cravings, but here’s why it should be. This Michelin-starred restaurant has its very own bakery concept (Burnt Ends Bakery), serving up equally delicious breads and pastries.
Its Milo Dinosaur donuts are the bestsellers here. These donuts were created exclusively for the Singapore Food Festival 2020, but became a permanent menu item because of its overwhelming popularity. These fried brioche donuts are filled with Milo cream and crunchy Milo biscuit, and dusted with Milo powder — what’s not to love?
The donuts here come in boxes of six ($24) and 12 ($52) for single flavours, while plain donuts are going at $18 for six and $39 for 12. You can also get its assorted box of five donuts ($20) if you’d like to try all of the available flavours.

Haritts Donuts & Coffee
Haritts’ donuts are perfect for anyone looking for a fluffier and lighter alternative to the American donuts we are used to. Hailing from Japan, Haritts started out as a mobile van selling donuts to Tokyo’s office workers. It has since grown from its humble beginnings to become a famous donut chain, with multiple locations in Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore.
These Japanese-style donuts are shaped solely by hand, using flour imported directly from Japan, before undergoing a slow-frying process. The result is a fluffy donut that’s light and airy, which might just make you eager for second servings. Both ring and stuffed donuts are available here in a variety of flavours, ranging from Mao Shan Wang durian ($4.30) to matcha white chocolate ($3.20).
Orders for donuts can be placed by pre-order every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday via an online form that will be posted on its social media pages. Customers can also walk-in to the two outlets on the same days to purchase its popular donuts, but do head down early as they sell out pretty quickly.
