Who doesn’t love fried chicken, right? While we have already been on a hunt for the best Korean Fried Chicken, this time we are searching for the best fast-food fried chicken. Having travelled far and wide (across Singapore) on the hunt for fried chicken, here are my thoughts on what I’ve tasted so far.
KFC
While KFC is one of the most popular fast food chains for fried chicken in Singapore, it did not impress me as much as I hoped it would. As a widely popularised fast food chain, one would assume that their quality of chicken would remain consistent over the years, but unfortunately for me it was not. Their Hot & Crispy chicken was not hot, nor was it crispy. That said, their chicken’s flavour was still evident, both on the skin and on the chicken meat itself. Arnolds
Being in the fried chicken business for over 30 years, Arnold’s is one of the pioneer Halal eateries in Singapore producing fresh and cheap fried chicken around Singapore. Known as a hotspot for NS men, this fast food joint offers a variety of meals and sides. While their chicken was tasty and tender, the skin was not as crispy as one would hope. One thing that was unique was their tub of gravy which they offered for $1.20. This gravy complemented their fried chicken well, enhancing the flavour of the chicken producer a far richer taste than eating it without. However, one thing that was disappointing would be their biscuits, in Arnold’s case their fried buns. They were far too oily for a bun that is supposed to soak up the oil rather than produce more of it. Check out their website to find one closest to you.

4Fingers
4Fingers has definitely gained a large following in the korean fried chicken world. Their chicken comes in two flavours, soy garlic and hot, which definitely lives up to its name. Their chicken are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. They come drenched in sauce, getting your fingers dirty is definitely a must! Their portions are definitely big, so get your stomachs ready before digging in. As an asian, of course I got the rice box — because rice goes well with everything! The rice was definitely a nice touch and something unique in terms of fast food fried chicken. If you like mixing sweet and salty, get their rice with teriyaki sauce and their hot fried chicken for a nice mix of both. Find one near you on their website.

Popeyes
Popeye’s fried chicken has had one of the cripsies skins I’ve tried so far. Their chicken is tender and juicy while crispy on the outside. I tried their original as well as their cajun fried chicken which was spicy to say the least. Unfortunately we didn’t get to try the highly hyped chicken sandwich when it came to Singapore for a brief moment. But definitely keep your eyes peeled as it may come back! Their biscuits were one of my favourites, as they are crispy, warm and slightly salted. Find out more about their menu on their website.

Jollibee
I only recently got to try Jollibee's fried chicken and infamous spaghetti. For me, their spaghetti is on the sweeter side, but I have been told that this is what it usually tastes like. Their spicy chicken was tender and juicy, and had less crispy skin than other fast food joints like KFC. Definitely try their chicken with the gravy that comes with it as the gravy complements the flavours in the chicken well.

Texas Chicken
Last but not least, Texas Chicken serves up fresh fried chicken daily. Their chicken was crispy on the outside, yet tender on the inside. Their chicken used are 100% fresh and you can definitely taste it in every bite. However, one thing that I wasn't too fond of were the side dishes. For sides, get the mashed potatoes as their gravy goes well with the chicken, and do without the other sides. Their biscuit was more on the sweet side, however still delicious as it was crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside.
