Sometimes the best things are homemade and for this case, homemade pastas always beat store-bought ones. When chefs and cooks create their own pastas, it gives them the opportunity to control the texture, consistency and most importantly, taste! Some of the places that we’re going to recommend you have managed to perfect various pasta shapes and flavour that goes perfectly with their sauces. Here are our top six picks for the best homemade pastas!

Tipo (Halal)

What I love the most about Tipo is that they allow you to DIY your pasta dishes to the very finest detail. To enter this humble restaurant you must be prepared for the long wait, so we highly recommend that you skip the busy lunch and dinner hours to get seated immediately. The restaurant offers three pasta flavours of different shapes and they are an open kitchen so sometimes while waiting for our foods to be served, we marvelled at their pasta-making skills and displays. I’ve always been a fan of anything and everything tomato based so the pasta I ordered was Lemon Dill Pasta with Pomodoro sauce and I think I made the perfect combination. Also, memberships are free and through this, you can get exclusive discounts and are applicable for other Black Hole Group restaurants!

Kucina (Halal)

Unlike Tipo, Kucina is bigger and can definitely accommodate more customers but with that said, the price is slightly higher as well. Kucina is owned by a Muslim Italian chef, so yes, he is very well versed with authentic Italian dishes and the art of pasta making. Honestly, the place is great for larger groups as personally, I find their food portions enormous. Besides, sharing makes the food tastier as well! When I visited the place, the best dish I had was their Tortellini Di Manzo which filled me up to the brim just like how they stuffed this dish.

Pasta Bar

Entering this place is like entering a pasta-making factory. There would be pastas hanging high from their racks and jars of handmade pastas just laying around all over the bar. The bar’s concept is insanely adorable as it seems like you’re entering a pasta-making workshop because of their wooden tables and brick walls. The overall ambience itself is very cozy and not rowdy like regular bars. If you ever get the chance to visit the place, I highly recommend their Pumpkin Tortellini as it is very rich and creamy.

Pasta Fresca

Introducing one of Singapore’s pioneer handmade pasta restaurants, Pasta Fresca! The good news is that this place offers vegetarian food options as well! When you visit one of their outlets, be sure to request outdoor seating (if available) because that really provides the perfect ambiance for you to enjoy your pastas. Simply put, it’s like a mini Italy in Singapore. However, the indoor seating isn’t too shabby as well. With their yellow lighting and dark accents, this place makes a romantic centre for those looking for a nice dinner date. Their bestseller, the Ravioli Di Burrata E Tartufo Nero is something I’d highly recommend because of this richness in different flavours so expect a little party in your mouth.

Pasta Brava

With a wall full of awards and certificates, this place has managed to provide a very cozy atmosphere. Their founder, Sofi Sui went through a lot of hardships and challenges to accomplish her dreams and to be able to have a platform to share her passion with others. She ventured far and wide all over Italy to learn from the best chefs in the area to perfect her pasta recipes while adding her own special twist to them. Many have raved about her Pasta Brava Spaghetti Del Pescatore and initially, I was hesitant to try squid ink since most of them taste bitter, but this was amazing and it was definitely worth it for me to step out from my comfort zone.

Lino

It’s impossible to miss Lino, especially with their bold signage. The restaurant itself has a floor-to-ceiling window that simply entices more customers to patronise the place and the restaurant itself. Though they are more known for their fresh pizzas baked in their brick oven, their pastas are also worth mentioning. A subsidiary of the Les Amis group, the pastas made here have the most amazing textures which add a nice touch and spring to your pasta dishes. Their Tagliatelle Al’ Arogosta is to die for. With fresh whole lobsters by the side of the rich buttery tomato base makes the entire dish perfect.
