In case you are wondering what are the top few places to take some of the best pictures in Santorini, we’ve got you covered. Here are the top 6 picture-perfect locations in Santorini.

The Castle of Agios Nikolas is also the most famous spot for viewing the sunset. Dedicated to Agios Nikolas, it’s named after a beautiful church, carved in a rock. The castle served as an observation point in the 15th century amidst the many pirate attacks on Santorini.

After an earthquake in 1956, many of the parts collapsed into the sea and only ruins are left today. The castle offers magnificent views of the Caldera, volcanic islands and the Aegean Sea. Additionally, both locals and tourists come to witness the Santorini sunset at this majestic castle.

This iconic sight is also one of the most common photographed backgrounds in Santorini. The Oia blue-domed church is surrounded by colourful buildings built against the sea, which makes it stand out even more. As Oia is a picturesque village, feel free to wander down the stairs to find your ideal background for a picture with this famous blue-domed church!

Amoudi Bay

This famous and small port is located beneath Oia and has some magnificent views of the sea. With crystal clear waters, wooden boats and seafood restaurants lined along the water’s edge, your pictures of Amoudi Bay would definitely pop due to the contrast of colours. From Amoudi Bay, it also leads out to a secret beach where you can swim and capture the view around you.

Akrotiri Lighthouse

Another iconic picture opportunity would be at the Akrotiri Lighthouse found in Akrotiri village. It’s one of the most beautiful spots on the island as its high on a cliff, overlooking the sea. As such, being here is absolutely blissful and many locals take the opportunity to come here during sunset as it offers some remarkable views. The lighthouse is easily accessible by road from Akrotiri village and apart from the lighthouse, there are other magnificent sights along the route.

Just like its name suggests, Red Beach got its name from the red cliffs and rocks surrounding the beach. This is one of the most famous beaches in Santorini and its located in Akrotiri, making it perfect to visit the Red Beach after visiting the lighthouse or vice versa.  The red cliffs and blue waters make a perfect contrast, making the beach even more breathtaking.

Saving the best for the last are the windmills in Santorini. Part of a luxurious villa located in the middle of Oia and Fira, it has 2 windmills on the western side of Oia. The windmills attract a huge crowd in the evening and many would like to capture the windmill against the golden hour. If you arent looking for a sunset picture, we’d recommend coming to this iconic spot earlier in the day to beat the crowd!
