Tucked away in an HDB estate near the Lavender MRT station, this iconic pork noodle stall has been drawing crowds since its inception in 1932. With a storied history and countless accolades under its belt, it should be no surprise the Michelin Guide has continued to award it with a one Michelin star over the years. Its signature bowl of noodles are made-to-order, hence the long lines you’ll see on a daily basis. Featuring crispy dried plaice, fluffy pork skin cracklings, and tender pork liver, you’ll be hooked after one bite.

This chicken rice stall is as famous as they come, and for many, it’s the only one they’ll frequent time after time. Its white chicken is poached to perfection—tender and flavourful with just the right amount of sauce drizzled on top. Paired with a few slices of cucumber and most importantly, the fragrant rice, don’t be tricked by this simple dish because there is more than what’s let on. Made with plenty of garlic, chicken fat, and chicken stock, the rice can compete to be the star of the show. Don’t forget to get a helping of chili sauce for the most authentic bite. You can expect to pay around $5 or less for this cheap but mouthwatering meal, but expect queues during rush hours.

Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Mee

In Singapore, most locals like to join a queue when they see a queue. It’s no different for this popular hawker stall, where the wait for a plate of char kway teow is usually an hour or more. Outram Park’s fried kway teow mee is made with a dark sauce, and the hawker uncle definitely cooks with enough wok hey for a nice, smoky flavour. Your plate will cost about $5.50 for the large size, featuring a good amount of fresh beansprouts and cockles. Add an egg for an additional charge.

Known as the first hawker stall to receive a Michelin-star rating, Hawker Chan has since expanded to several locations around Singapore and overseas as well. Although it has lost its one Michelin star this year, it is still a worthy mention on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list—specifically, the 78 Smith Street location. Originating from a stall in the Chinatown Food Center, customers line up for its tender and tasty soy-sauce chicken and roast pork. For the price of what you pay, it’s a no-brainer to come and enjoy this good value and good quality dish.

Kok Sen

The last entry we want to highlight in our list of cheap Michelin Guide eats is this Singaporean zi char restaurant in Tanjong Pagar. Although your food bill will definitely run above $10, many dishes here are around that price point. We love the prawns omelette, sliced fish hor fun with bean sprouts, Yang Zhou fried rice, cereal prawns, and prawn paste chicken. Kok Sen is definitely a great spot for family and friends to get together, or to give tourists a taste of the local flavours.
