Covid-19 has sure changed our daily norms and how we can celebrate our various occasions and festivities but at least, it has brought it closer together. For this Lunar New Year, the Singapore government has changed the usual and traditional way of how most people celebrate this festive occasion but that still does not mean that you cannot bring the usual celebrations back home with your loved ones (as long as you adhere to the pandemic’s social guidelines). So, why not spice things up by ordering some unique Yusheng for 2021’s Chinese New Year!

Bring your prosperity toss to a whole new level with edible gold in this Yusheng! Mad About Sucre specialises in French cuisines and desserts but has started taking up a new challenge to adapt to local tongues by creating their own take of pineapple tarts and Prospere Louhei with a slight french twist. So this Yusheng, is definitely for those who are feeling a bit more adventurous with trying a plate of Yusheng with a generous amount of caviar, house-smoked salmon and gold. Though traditionally, Yusheng uses raw fish and other seafood delicacies in each platter but not everyone is so thrilled with those options so this restaurant has created a plant-based Yusheng for those seeking an alternative. When vegetarian Yusheng is mentioned, most people aren’t fazed by the thought of it due to the lack of options and uniqueness of the platter. However, in Wan Hao Chinese restaurant, connoisseurs can expect to receive a generous amount of pears and avocados on top of the usual vegetables that are normally served.  Additionally, for more information on their Chinese New Year menu, you can view them here!

For those allergic to seafood or just want a change of taste, you should try Syun’s Yusheng platters. Syun has taken a great leap by opting out seafood-based Yusheng for a meatier option — Wagyu beef. The Japanese head chef wanted to share with Singaporeans on how Japanese people celebrate their Lunar New Year but with a fancier twist. The platter includes abalone steak and salmon roe which represents revitalisation in Japanese customs. So, if you’re looking for a change, you should check Syun out! 13 Stages

Calling all chicken lovers! 13 Stages heard you, while Syun offers a delicious meat platter as Yusheng, 13 Stages has substituted it for chicken instead! The Prosperity Imperial Chicken consists of tender boneless chicken legs cut into bite-sized strips along with three of their signature dips — Ginger, Mala and Chilli Lime. This is then all served on top of a bed of kale salad tossed with Dang Gui sauce. The image of the Yusheng itself looks incredibly appetising and comforting. They have definitely taken a leap by trying this out for the very first time.

Other than Ma La, Singaporeans can go nuts for salted egg. Xin Cuisine offers a Yusheng full of Alaskan Crab legs with a rich salted egg sauce. This is definitely different from the regular plum sauce drizzle in most Yusheng. For more details, you can view their menu here.
