Float Indigo
If you’re looking for a totally different kind of therapy and wellness experience, Float Indigo could well be it. Float tank therapy is relatively new on the wellness scene, but a growing number of people are attesting to its effectiveness and novelty. It consists of a sensory deprivation tank that shuts out sound and sight, and the chemicals in the water make it buoyant. This means you’ll feel like you’re floating gently and easily on the water, and this effortless movement helps you relax and relieve your muscles. At the same time, it’s also a meditation exercise, as you are removed from your surroundings and placed in an environment where you can truly connect with yourself, no distractions. An hour-long session in the flotation tank costs about S$66 (THB 1500), but there may sometimes be Friday promotions, or other ad hoc promotions rolled out by the owners. A novel experience like this, as many others testify, is surely worth every penny!
Opens Monday to Friday from 1pm - 9.30pm and Saturday from 11am - 6pm
Address: 45/5 Soi Ta-iad, Chalong, Mueang, Phuket 83130, Thailand
Coqoon Spa at The Slate
As cosy as a cocoon, you can sink into bliss right here at Coqoon Spa. The Coqoon Rebirth Massage is a package that really prioritises your needs - as soon as you step in, masseurs will help you tailor a treatment regime that is highly personalised and attuned to your body. The Awakening Massage is also highly recommended, as it involves two therapists working simultaneously to treat you. A 1-hour Awakening Massage treatment will set you back by S$206 (THB4700), but it’s money well-invested! But if you’re looking for a real cleanse, their Nest Detox should do the trick: the Bamboo Charcoal Body Wrap and Lymphatic Drainage Massage is bound to make you feel clean and refreshed once you’re done!

Other interesting therapies include Taoist healing methods for breathing and sound therapy with Tibetan bowls, which starts from S$132 (THB 3000). If all that may sound daunting, you can always go for the Asaya Bespoke Massage, which uses many custom-blend massage techniques and oil blends that will give you a holistic deep massage.

If you want to make things even easier, you can call So Thai Spa in advance and check if they can arrange for private transportation from your hotel right to their doorstep. Bonus: To tip or not to tip?
While tipping is not the usual practice in Asia among locals, a tip from travellers is always appreciated as some service staff in Thailand do not get paid very well. This includes masseurs, who may not get to pocket most of what you’re paying as most of the money goes to spa owners. If you’re going for a massage or spa in a high-end hotel, you should tip your masseuse at least 10% of the bill. For other places, you should tip at least 50 baht or more, if you can afford it. Give your tip, in cash, directly to the service staff you wish to thank to guarantee that they’ll receive it!
