Chuka Soba Tomita Ramen

The Place

Tomita Ramen is rated the best tsukemen and the #1 ramen by Ramen Database. Besides winning multiple awards, there’s also a documentary, called Ramen Heads, about the shop. Its tsukemen is made of dense homemade buckwheat noodles, paired with a bowl of thick and rich soup. The broth is a complex and umami harmony of pork bone and seafood, with the citrus notes of yuzu adding balance.

Insider Tips

Try the tsukesoba (¥1,100), Tomita Ramen’s version of tsukemen dipping noodles. It’s paired with perfectly-grilled chashu that melts in your mouth. End the meal by requesting for the thick soup to be turned into broth by adding hot water.

You go in the morning at 8am to order your meal. They then schedule your eating time. It's a ritual. After eating, you are in a state of bliss. OMG, literally a drug!!! While walking out, I was questioning what just happened. Total euphoria! I will be chasing the dragon and returning before I head back home to Canada.

You don’t need my word for it. This place has the best noodles out there. Be sure to stop by early (I’m taking 6am) to get your ticket at 7am when they start doing food prep. It’s worth the wait and there’s plenty of stuff to do in matsudo to pass the time.

Arrived 8am, ordered and went back 11 am. Positive: the complexity of the soup base is at different level / in its own world. Downside: need some knowledge and skills in appreciate the philosophy behind the food e.g. the speed of consumption to get a balance of temperature, need the “soupu wari” in getting the best out of it - expected finishing. Would only go back if time permit, otherwise visit their store in Tokyo station should do the job (be honest, I can’t be ask)

The best I’ve ever had !!! He makes the broth from scratch cooking it to perfection over 27 hours. I was feeling a little under the weather coming from hawaii to the cold climate, but after eating this meal it made me feel better. It was a lot of food !!! The Egg was unreal !!! You can taste the Smokey flavors and the pork was so tender it melted. I started eating the noodles like soba with the salt and lime then started to dip it into the broth and tried to slurp but I couldn’t slurp so loud. The noodles were really good and filling !!! It was worth the wait in the morning. I was the first and got there at 6:50am then another guy showed up at 7 and some more at 7:15-7:30 by 8am when they open to sell tickets there were a good 30-40 people in line. It was a cold and rainy morning too. We came back to sit down for the meal at 10:30. The place seats about 10 people at a time. This was an awesome experience after seeing ramen heads and getting to experience it first hand was unreal !!!! hope I can come back here again !!!!

Hard to describe the experience. Only 9 people seated at a time. It feels just like the meal is only being prepared for you. Such a thick and flavourful dipping broth. Showed up at 8 to get seats for 11:50 and they sold out for 4:50. Get there early to make sure you get a ticket that day and don’t show up late for your time.
