Cà Phê Đỗ Phủ - Bảo Tàng Biệt Động Sài Gòn

The Place

This retro cafe houses an old underground military bunker. We're not kidding, secret meetings with the Viet Cong forces were held here. Ask nicely and they'll pop open a floor tile that actually serves as an entrance to the bunker! Of course, you're also here for coffee which they serve traditionally with a Vietnamese filter (phin).

Insider Tips

It's also a popular spot for com tam, a dish made from fractured rice grains typically served with tender slices of pork.

Good food, secret tunnels, and fun spot to be you can explore the underground tunnel. The location on google maps is incorrect but as long as you say the name some people will guide you to the location. If is just one street down from where Google maps has it at. The bunker is a bit humid so be prepared for that and you can have one of the folks working there (not sure if she was the owner) open up the door for you to enter. You will see a lot of tour guides bring folks here but if you want to do it on your own that is probably a good way to explore yourself. The food was actually really good too so definitely support these folks.

Coming here is like visiting a friend’s home, with a rich history. Settle in for a simple, home cooked meal of broken rice and pork chop. The iced white coffee is great too. 2 plates of rice and 1 coffee will cost you barely USD4, which is a crazy small amount to pay for not just the food but the experience this little place has to offer. An enthusiastic, young man brought us to different parts of this house - a secret bunker, a hidden passageway and more. Wow. A most unique place to have a meal and absorb some history. Warning - you do need some dexterity to get through some parts!

Great cafe. Reasonable priced coffee. You get to stay in a house decorated with vintage stuff and antiques. Theres also a mini tour to the basement, where the rebels used to use to stash their guns ammos and stuff. You get to travel the secret passageway to go around the house (and the tour is free)
